Comedians and SEO Marketing

By Sally Edwards at ComedyBySally.com

As a clean female comedian, I am often approached by church groups to ask me to perform clean comedy for women.  They find me in a number of ways including mailings, word-of-mouth and SEO (search engine optimization).  Therefore, I spend many hours each day trying to get to the top of that very important Google search.

In addition to finding the ideal keywords, meta tags and descriptions for my site, I am continually searching YouTube videos regarding the most recent developments for optimizing websites.  Ironically, the YouTube video I discovered today discussed the optimization of YouTube videos!  This video offered a wealth of information which will be of great benefit to me when promoting myself as a clean female comedian.

Dave Bowen is very clean in his instruction and he offers daily tasks for serious students of YouTube SEO.  I recommend his videos to other funny clean comedians hoping to advance their videos for promotion.

Top Ten Clean Comedians

As a clean corporate female comedian as well as a regular at Zanies Comedy Club, I am fortunate to perform regularly at corporate events because my humor is clean and my jokes and premises are non-offensive. I perform clean comedy because I love the challenge of discovering whether or not something is truly funny.  I enjoy knowing that a joke can be funny on it's own merit and creativeness. Over the years I have been inspired and influenced by other clean comedians. I admire their genius.

Top Ten Clean Comedians

1)  Brian Regan - For many years, Brian was a "Comedian's Comedian."  He was a well-kept secret among professionals who knew great clean comedy.  Eventually top management caught up with his talent and he went on to perform on the largest stages for comedy in the country.

2)  Jim Gaffigan - Jim's new book "Dad is Fat!" is taking the comedy community by storm.  Jim's stand-up comedy is as funny as his written word.  Jim Gaffigan's clean comedy fills the seats and he is a familiar face from coast-to-coast.

3)  Carol Leifer  - I first saw Carol Leifer when she was performing at The Comic Strip in New York City. It was suggested by Ritchie Tienkin that I move to New York when he saw me performing at The Comic Strip in Florida.  I was new to New York but Carol was a seasoned pro. She eventually moved to L.A. and became a top writer on the Seinfeld Show.

4)  Jay Leno - Before Jay Leno hit The Tonight Show stage, he was a young comedian who claims to have slept in his car before achieving any success.  I first saw him in Elmhurst, IL wearing his motorcycle jacket and boots and delivering edgy clean stand-up comedy.  We all know where that led him.

5)  Jimmy Brogan - Regarded as the best emcee in the country by comedians who know him, he was Jay Leno's head writer for 10 years.  The night that I met him through a friend at St. Mary's of Notre Dame, I told my sister that I'd met the funniest person in my life.  Good instincts!

6)  Paula Poundstone - I never actually met Paula Poundstone when she was on the road working as a comedian.  However, I did see her from afar as I stopped by the club where she was performing when we were in the same city.  Another gifted comedian, she excels at audience interaction.

7) Jeff Allen - I started doing comedy just a few years after Jeff Allen took the plunge.  He was dynamite at The Comedy Cottage in Rosemont and he's never slowed down.  Christian audiences who appreciate clean Christian Comedians welcome his clean humor with open arms.

8)  Mike Toomey - Playing "Skip Parker" on the WGN Morning News, Mike Toomey demonstrates his ability to appear as numerous funny characters.  What the WGN audience was not initially aware of was the fact that Mike Toomey is a well-known and brilliant clean comedian in the Chicago area.  He is now a permanent part of the WGN morning news show.

9)  Ellen Degeneres - When you're known by one name, you have made it.  ... Just call me "Sally."

10)  Steven Haas - O.K.  I'm biased here.  Steven Haas is my son and he is taking L.A. by storm.  A new L.A. clean comedian, he came in first-placed in the Flapper's Comedy Competition last Sunday.  He is getting top reviews and I am so proud of him!

Clean Comedian Sally Edwards Hosts Zanies' "Top Ten"

On Tuesday nights beginning on October 22nd at 8:00 p.m., the best and the brightest Chicago comedians will be taking the stage at Zanies Comedy Club located in the new MB Financial Park at 5437 Park Place, Rosemont, IL 60018.  After spending a few years away from the comedy club scene in order to pursue my clean corporate comedy at special events and women's conferences, I am returning to the Zanies Comedy Club stage in Rosemont, IL to host their special weekly comedy event called "The Tuesday Ten."

Adding a new performance night at Zanies Comedy Club offers a great opportunity to established comedians to showcase their talents.  Whether comedians are performing new material or old standards the show will rock.  I absolutely love hosting comedy shows at Zanies in Rosemont because the room is intimate yet dynamic. The sound is fantastic which gives an added punch to the very funny material the comedians are delivering.  Hope to see everyone there!

Comedy in L.A. with Ray Romano

Just took a trip out to L.A. and had a super time.  My husband, Bert and I, planned the trip to see our children who are in L.A. and San Francisco respectively.  However, we did spend some time at The Comedy Magic Club in Hermosa Beach because my husband is a friend of the manager Richie Barrett.  Our son Steven, who is also a comedian, joined.  (Of course that was the best part for me.)

Richie was an awesome host and made us feel very much at home.  We ate dinner in his company in a private room and really received the super treatment.  It was a special thrill for our son because he is relatively new to the comedy scene and he got a real bird's eye view of backstage.

As is customary to the Comedy Magic Club the stars were out.  Although I have met most "wow" comedians from their visits to Chicago, I had never met Ray Romano and he made a special guest visit that evening.  It just so happened that there was a benefit that night and the audience was all women.  Believe me, I wanted to be on that stage but Ray handled the same sex crowd with finesse.  They loved him!

We exited when Ray's portion of the show was over.  On the way out, I passed him in the hallway and shook his hand.  He was very gracious and I told him I was big fan of his show that still airs daily.  If you want to know what Ray Romano is really like - watch "Everybody Loves Raymond."  At first glance, it does seem to provide a true reflection.
